Equity Reporting Intern
Through this role, I was tasked to assist reporters on the equity team by taking story assignments they could not work on. This coverage revolved around trauma-informed reporting, including articles on family violence, child welfare, environmental justice, and more. I also led story development and reporting for the paper’s Season for Sharing series, highlighting nonprofits throughout the state.

Social Justice Reporter
This role focused on national reporting tied to issues applying to Arizona residents, including policy on the Southwest border, water conservation, healthcare, infrastructure and the death penalty. This coverage includes almost 40 stories within a 4-month period.

Reporter
Student reporters for PolitiFact Arizona verify and analyze statements from politicians and political organizations. During my term, my team focused on political banter surrounding Arizona's 2022 state election. I attended political events - including a broadcasted election debate - and paid attention to the social media accounts of political groups and politicians to find verifiable, newsworthy claims.

Managing Editor (Aug. 2023 - Sept. 2023)
Managing editors oversee the story development of digital content across all reporting desks of the paper. They are tasked to copy-edit 2-4 stories a day to check for clear writing and proper Associated Press style. In addition, the managing editor is the primary person guiding desk editors, whether there is a reporter who is struggling on that beat or a story that needs reframing.
Assignment Editor, Senior Reporter (Aug. 2022 - Dec. 2023)
The assignment editor is tasked to guide beat reporters on story development and collaborate with beat editors to ensure the production of accurate, detailed content. Senior reporters conduct extensive research and reporting for enterprise pieces, in addition to covering breaking news stories when needed. My work as a senior reporter included extensive research and public records requests, along with breaking down legislative and court documents into simple language.
Politics Reporter (Aug. 2021 - May. 2022)
This reporting role provides insight into the ways student, city and state government policy impacts students and employees at Arizona State University. This has included coverage of the state legislature, higher education policy, student government, the city of Tempe and other stories highlighting social justice issues.
